Many caldera cruises use Vlychada or Athinios; some volcano boats use the old port below Fira, and Ammoudi serves Oia. Check the exact harbour and whether hotel transfer is included.
It has striking volcanic beaches rather than long pale-sand beaches. Kamari, Perissa and Perivolos have dark sand and visitor facilities; Red Beach requires extra care and local access advice.
A guided island tour may combine several highlights, but the caldera villages, ports and east-coast beaches are separated by winding roads. A volcano cruise plus a full island circuit is usually too much for one relaxed day.
There is no single central marina from which every tour leaves, and the famous white villages are not beach resorts. The main ferry port is Athinios; cruise tenders use the old port below Fira.
