Horse riding to Santorini’s black beach: a beginner’s guide
Updated October 9, 2026 · 4 min read
The ride with the most reviews on this site is the Horse Riding Trip to Black Sandy Beach: 1.5 hours, €85 per person, rated 4.9 from 1,601 reviews. Its description promises that you learn to ride and see the volcanic black-sand beach from the saddle, with expert guidance.
What the description promises
The listing says “learn to ride a horse”, so it is aimed at people with little or no experience, and the beach is the destination rather than a side stop. The short description says nothing about group size, age or weight limits or the meeting point. Check these on the booking page before you pay, and ask what happens if weather or ground conditions are unsuitable on your day.
Shorter, longer, more private
Six other rides on this site are worth comparing. The Akrotiri guided horseback riding day trip to a beach takes one hour and costs €66 (4.9, 647 reviews): €19 less and half an hour shorter than the featured ride. The Horseback Riding Tour on the Beach also lasts 1.5 hours and costs €95 (4.9, 229 reviews); it promises riding along the beach. The Premium Ride: Volcano Trails to Eros Beach costs €120 for 1.5 hours and follows the southern coast towards Vlychada. Two one-hour rides cost €68: one through Megalochori between narrow paths and Cycladic caves, the other past volcanic vineyards with views of the caldera cliffs. For privacy there is the Exclusive Private Horse Riding with picnic, €400 per person for 2.5 hours, but it has a single review so far.
For a first ride with the black beach as the goal, start with the featured trip; it has by far the most reviews. If one hour is enough, the Akrotiri ride is the cheaper choice. If the route matters more to you than the beach, compare the Eros Beach ride.
